Christmas Break

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Remember our Christmas break is Dec. 22-Jan. 2. We return to school on Monday, Jan. 5. Be safe and enjoy your time off!!!

Reading Assessment Results

My class scored 50% at benchmark on the GRADE and DIBELS winter assessments. That means that half of my class is reading and performing at First Grade middle of the year level. I would be glad to set up a conference after we return from Christmas break to discuss your child's test results with you. It is very important that your child read at least 15-20 minutes each night to help build and maintain his/her reading skills.

Words for this week

Spelling Words: five, ride, nine, like, kite, time, prize, smile

High-frequency words: give. little, fly, good, try, our, her, was

Vocabulary words: anywhere, beautiful, convinced, easy, news, perfect, raining, weather

Please take 5-10 minutes each night to read and practice these words with your child.

Tuesday - Read library book with child. Complete math sheet.

Wednesday - Read story in folder. Write spelling words two times each. NOTE: We will have our spelling test tomorrow this week.

Thursday - No Homework. Christmas program at 6:00 pm. Remember to be in classroom by 5:30 pm.

Friday - No Homework

NOTE: I have spelling words, high-frequency words, and vocabulary words for this week on word cards this week. Please take 5-10 minutes each night to read and practice these words with your child.

Thanksgiving Vacation

We will be out of school Nov. 26-28 for Thanksgiving vacation. I hope everyone has a nice break and remembers to take the time to be thankful for all the things we are blessed to have in our lives. Enjoy and be thankful for the time to spend with your family and friends!!!!!

Practice Reading - Mid Year Assessments

We will be taking our mid-year reading assessments in the next two-three weeks. It is very important to practice sight word lists sent home and read at home 10-15 minutes each night. Remember the goal for oral reading fluency is to be able to read 20 words per minute.

No school on Monday, Nov. 3, and Tuesday, Nov. 4. Enjoy your long weekend!!!!!!

Halloween Party

We will have a Halloween Party on Friday, 10-31-08, from 12:00-12:40 pm. Since we get back from lunch at 11:40, the students won't be very hungry; therefore, I only listed things like cookies, chips, dip, candy, and drinks. If these things aren't eaten, they can easily be sent home with students. Please send any of the items listed if you want to send something for the party.

Don't forget School Pictures are due Thursday, Oct. 23. Fall Festival will be from 4:30-7:30 pm on Friday, Oct. 24. Remember we need toys and cleaning supplies sent by Wednesday if you would like to donate any for our toy walk or cleaning supply basket. Ident-a-Kid will be Wed., Oct. 29.

Fall Break

Remember Fall Break begins in one week, Sept. 29-Oct. 10. Hope everyone has a safe and relaxing break and is ready to return on Oct. 13!!!! ENJOY!!!!!!

I just wanted to let you know that I have not received my purchase order to place my Reading First Book order for this month yet. However, I did place the order for the three parents that sent money to purchase extra books. I placed that order yesterday. I will place the free books book order as soon as I receive my purchase order.

We will be taking the DIBELS reading assessment on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Remember to get plenty of rest the night before and eat a good breakfast each morning.

We go to lunch each day from 11:15-11:40.

Scholastic Book Order

Your child received a Scholastic Books order form today. Please take the time to sit down with your child and help him/her choose a total value of $4.00 in books. Be sure and mark these with the letter "F" on the order form. This is purchased with the Reading First Grant money. If you would like to purchase additional books for your child, please mark these and send a check made to Scholastic Book Clubs. This is due by Friday, August 8.
